White Light 'Time-Jump' Effect from Lost

The bright white light effect is used in the TV series 'Lost' to signal a change or jump in time, within the narrative. In our film, it will be used to signal the change or jump from 'augmeted past' to 'normality', and vice versa.
Also to differ between the two different scenes (interrogation and murder), the murder scenes, that are set in the 'augmented past', will be coloured in dark red, as an alternative to black and white, which is the conventional style for 'past' scenes.

Filming - 11th Feb
Today we will be filming the interior (interrogation room) and exterior (crime scene) scenes. The interior scenes are being shot first, to help aid with the transitions between interior and exterior.
UPDATE - The interior scenes were ultimately filmed outside, at a different location. This was done due to the fact that we couldn't use a room to film in. A quick change of the script, and re-planning of storyboards was needed. Instead of Detective walking into the interrogation room, Suspect is running from the crime scene, while the Detective walks into shot from left, to stop Suspect. Detective goes to talk to him, and the scene continues in the same way as it does in the script.

Crime scene photos
For our film we have needed to go and take some photos of the "Crime scene"
We need these photos for use as evidence in our film.
All of the photos play a big role as they are used just before or during the changes of the background so not only are they used as evidence but also it signals the transitions between scenes.
The one below is the first photo that will be shown in the film as photo evidence of the crime scene.
The photo below is the next photo that will be used in our film that will be used as evidence.
The image below is the third picture that will be used in our film as photo evidence.

Influnces
Hustle - (at 47 seconds)
We intend to use this effect to show that the scene has moved from the interrogation room to the murder scene.
UPDATED - We decided that this effect wouldn't fit with the 'serious' tone of the rest of the film. So we will use the 'white flash' effect, shwon above.

Cinematography and Director
I am in charge of the cinematography and directing.
The cinematography will be heavily modeled on tradition interrogation scenes in police drama's, such The Bill, Waking the Dead and Ashes to Ashes.
This scene (from 3:51 - 4:53) from tv series Asylum, is exactly how the shots will be staged, with the 180 degree rule being used to have both characters framed in the centre of the shots.
The chairs used with the table in the scene will be metal, so they have a grating sound when they are dragged across the floor. This will be done in order to make the interrogation scene as normal as possible, in contrast to the 'bizarre' murder scenes.

Editing and Sound
I William Kitchin am in charge of both sound and editing of our short film!
For Editing several of the scenes will be edited to look faster for such scenes when there is stichomythia to try and add more suspense and tension between the detective and the suspect or when there is more action happening in the scene.
like in Walter Hill's film the driver when he is driving the car to show how good a driver he is!
this scene is a good example of showing lots of quick cuts to the keep up the action and tension within the scene just as we will want to be doing within our scene's, near the end of our short film when everything has been hyped up and there is more tension between the characters.
for the sound we will probably record every sound twice so that we make sure that we get the precise sound we want and will also then be able to shoot stuff outside without the worry that the wind and other unwanted noises will interfere with the sounds and audio that we are after. Also when the detective is in the room we are going to use metal chairs for the grating sound which tends to send a chill down people's neck's. so most of the sound will be non-diagetic sound however some of the sound will actually be diagetic.
the film clip of 'the warriors' by Walter Hill is using non-diagetic sound which is kinda creepy and makes the audience feel slightly awkward.
also the milk bottles clashing together makes you feel awkward as it is over emphasised and makes you feel awkward about it as well as the way that the character starts saying "warrior's come out to play" and as it is out of tune and is a kind of rough type of voice it sounds eary and can make your skin crawl slightly.

Short film idea
Our short film idea is a murder mystery with a surreal twist. the film is all about a murder investigation where the background is showing the story of the murder with a plot twist at the end. The two characters are referred to as detective and suspect.
The film is set in what looks like 2 different locations however both locations are set in the same room. Everything that is seen happening, happens in the one room. One set of filming is of the murder scene in which the suspect supposedly killed someone, the other is inside of the interrogation room of the dialogue between the suspect and the detective who is trying to get the suspect to admit to the murder.
In the end the suspect admits to murder however not of the same person he is accused of murdering but of murdering the detective!
